Daughter vanishes trying to save mom in paddle-boarding accident, Utah sheriff says
A woman vanished after diving into a reservoir to try to save her 60-year-old mother, who could not swim, following a paddle-boarding accident, Utah officials reported.
The mother later died after being pulled to shore at Flaming Gorge Reservoir in the Saturday, Aug. 24, incident, the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Her family was unable to revive her, authorities said.
Her 44-year-old daughter remains missing, sheriff’s officials said. A search for the woman was suspended Sunday, Aug. 25, because of a thunderstorm.
Sheriff Erik Bailey confirmed to McClatchy News that the woman dove into Flaming Gorge Reservoir to try to save her mother after she fell in the water in a paddle-boarding accident.
The sheriff’s office did not release the names of the mother and daughter.
Flaming Gorge Reservoir is about a 240-mile drive northeast from Salt Lake City on the Wyoming border.
