A dog with a big heart — and an even bigger smile — is drawing some attention thanks to his … well … lack of attention.

Smokey’s stay at the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia has been longer than expected. Over 1,380 days, the pup has been held up in his kennel, the shelter said in a social media post.

“Summer is coming to an end...it’s just one more season passing without Smokey finding his forever family,” the SPCA said in an Aug. 27 post.

“1386 days have passed since Smokey first arrived into our shelter. Other than trips offsite with his volunteer friends (including a sleepover), he has never left.”

While the shelter may be stressful for Smokey, he certainly hasn’t lost his happy light and shows it off enthusiastically to everyone who crosses his path.

“When our hope wanes, we look at Smokey’s big smile and we are reinvigorated,” the post says.

Smokey is around 5-years-old and a terrier, pit bull mix who has an alert face and a playful disposition, his pet profile says.

“This handsome pup is still as happy as can be. Smokey’s motto is ‘go big or go home’ and he loves to go big, doing everything with his whole entire heart,” his profile says.

“When he cuddles, he presses so tight against his person so they can feel just how much he loves them. When he plays, his eyes are always on the (prize).”
