A Georgia man has been charged in a crash that killed a 72-year-old woman and her two dogs, deputies said.

Logan Moye, 30, of Dahlonega, was accused of driving impaired when he ran a red light and slammed into another driver at the intersection of Georgia 400 and Jot ’Em Down Road in Cumming, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the wreck at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, authorities said in a news release.

Investigators said Moye was traveling at a high rate of speed in his Ford F-150 when the light changed.

At the same time, Julie Waters Lamb, 72, was crossing the intersection in her Toyota SUV, deputies said. Moye’s speed made it “impossible” to stop at the red light, authorities said, and he hit Lamb’s vehicle.

She died at the scene, deputies said. Two dogs in the car with her were also killed, authorities said.

Moye was arrested on multiple charges including vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving and two counts of animal cruelty, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities also said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time.

Moye remained in custody at the Forsyth County Jail without bond as of Wednesday, Sept. 11, online records show.

Cumming is about a 40-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta.
