A 41-year-old man accused of drunk driving was eating chicken before crashing into an apartment bedroom in Oregon, police said.

The crash happened after midnight on Sept. 21, the Gresham Police Department said in an email to McClatchy News.

The driver had been eating chicken and using his phone before slamming his Toyota Prius into the building, police said.

One person was in the bedroom and six other people were in the apartment, police said.

Police said the driver “showed signs of impairment and admitted drinking.”

He was arrested on suspicion of DUII, reckless driving and multiple counts of recklessly endangering another person.

“The Gresham Police Department would like to remind the public of the dangers of both impaired and distracted driving, which combined in this case to damage a person’s home,” police said.

Gresham is about a 15-mile drive east from Portland.
