A dog whose former owner surrendered her to an Ohio shelter has been “sweet,” happy and loving ever since.

But after six long years in the shelter, she wants a home to call her own, the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society said on Facebook on Sept. 27.

“Another fall season. This is the 6th one that Kona has spent with us,” the shelter said. “She is tired. She wants a home.”

Kona’s owner surrendered her in 2018 “to no fault of her own,” the shelter said.

“Unfortunately, there has been barely any interest in her over the years,” the shelter said. “Kona may require multiple visits in order to trust her new family as she is shy at first (but very treat motivated).”

Once she’s used to someone, Kona enjoys spending time with people, the shelter said.

“She adores the volunteers that walk her daily, and she loves to go for car rides with them!” the shelter said. “Once she trusts you, she is a very loving, happy girl. Kona takes treats so gently and has the sweet demeanor to match.”

Kona doesn’t care for other dogs, which is the main reason no one has adopted her, the shelter said.

“Kona needs to be the only dog in the home, but does like cats,” the shelter said. “Kona is 6 years old and has spent most of her life here. Could you be her forever family?”

Several people commented that they would be interested, or that they’re familiar with the pup and have been hoping to see her go to a good home.

“Kona is my shelter favorite,” someone said. “She is very affectionate.”

One person who said they live in Cleveland said they would be interested, and several people replied singing the pup’s praises.

“Kona is a very sweet girl with a nice energy level,” someone said. “She’s worth the drive to meet her.”

Someone else said they know someone who volunteers at the shelter and “loves Kona.”

“I have been praying she finds a loving home,” they said.

Several people also said how beautiful they find the brown dog with white patches on her neck, chest and paws.

“This just breaks my heart,” another person said. “Wish the right person would come along!”
