A comedian told police he had been drinking alcohol before he rear-ended a woman on his way home from a club, Oklahoma police said.

“I was going a little too fast, but yeah, I rear-ended her,” comedian Cepeda Cheeks told Tulsa police, according to an affidavit filed Oct. 10.

Cheeks crashed into the woman in the early hours of Dec. 23, 2023, police said. At the time, the victim was three weeks pregnant, according to court documents.

In the weeks following the crash, the woman suffered bleeding and cramping, officials said. She miscarried on Feb. 1, according to the affidavit.

Her medical records say the miscarriage was caused by the injuries she suffered during the collision, according to Tulsa police.

At the scene of the crash, police conducted a sobriety test and attempted to breathalyze the comedian, according to court documents. Officers said he slurred his words and was under the influence of alcohol.

At the time of the collision, Cheeks was arrested on a driving under the influence charge. That charge was dropped, according to police, but new charges were filed after prosecutors learned about the victim’s miscarriage.

Attorney information for Cheeks was not listed.

Cheeks was charged with first-degree manslaughter and DUI fatal collision on Oct. 8, according to court documents.

An arrest warrant was issued Oct. 10, and Cheeks posted bond Oct. 14, according to court records.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 18.
