Accused drunk driver arrested after calling 911 — four times, California police say
An accused drunk driver was arrested after he called 911 — four times, California police say.
When the 37-year-old Los Angeles man called 911 multiple times in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 19, he “sounded distraught or disoriented,” the San Marino Police Department said in a news release.
Officers found the man seated in the driver seat of his car with an open bottle of alcohol in the center console, police said.
The driver, who police said appeared to be intoxicated and smelt of alcohol, told officers “he was sick and needed medical attention.”
Members of the San Marino Fire Department arrived and assessed the man, who police said refused to be taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
During a field sobriety test, police said the man showed “signs and symptoms of intoxication.”
He was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer, according to police.
After being medically cleared, he was booked into jail, police said.
The man’s car was towed, according to police.
San Marino is about an 11-mile drive northeast from downtown Los Angeles.
