A man found dead pinned beneath a minivan died in an intentional hit-and-run crash, California police reported.

Officers responding to a crash involving a pedestrian found the body at about 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, the San Jose Police Department said in a news release.

The driver had run away, police said. An investigation determined the two men knew each other and the crash was intentional, leading to an arrest.

Edward Herrera, 40, faces a charge of murder, police said. The name of the man who died has not been released.

Investigators ask anyone with information to contact detectives at 4106@sanjoseca.gov, 4365@sanjoseca.gov or 408-277-5283.

San Jose is about a 55-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.
