A mushroom hunter spent two nights lost in a dense Oregon forest until he found a trail, deputies said.

The 40-year-old man was mushroom picking with a friend Sunday, Nov. 3, in the Mount Hood National Forest, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The two got separated at one point, so his friend reported him missing, deputies said.

Search teams spread out to look for the Sandy man, but the steep terrain and cold, rainy weather with hail posed challenges, deputies said.

Rescuers were also worried about the cold overnight temperatures, deputies said.

He was seen walking out of the Eagle Creek Trail two days after he was reported missing.

Deputies said he was cold and wet but in “good condition.”

Mount Hood National Forest is about a 35-mile drive southeast from Portland.
