Teen puts fuel drum on fire and it explodes, injuring 8 at beach party, Alaska cops say

A 55-gallon fuel drum placed in a campfire at a beach party exploded, injuring eight teenagers, Alaska troopers reported.

The explosion took place at a party on White Sands Beach in Kodiak at 1:14 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, Alaska State Troopers said in a news release.

An estimated 20 to 40 teenagers were at the party, troopers said.

Five of the eight teens injured in the explosion were taken to Anchorage hospitals with moderate injuries, troopers said.

The teen who placed the fuel drum in the campfire was arrested, troopers said.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call 907-486-4121.

Kodiak is about 250 miles southwest from Anchorage.
