Beloved doctor ‘ambushed,’ killed outside clinic, CA cops say. Months later, 2 arrested
Months after a beloved doctor was “ambushed” and killed outside his clinic, two have been arrested in his slaying, California police say.
A 41-year-old Texas man and 40-year-old California woman were arrested in the death of Hamid Mirshojae, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a Dec. 10 news release shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
After Mirshojae left his Woodland Hills medical practice, Warner Plaza Urgent Care, on Aug. 23, he was “ambushed and shot by a single gunman,” police said.
The assailant ran on foot and left in an awaiting car, according to police.
Officers responded to the shooting just after 6 p.m. and found Mirshojae, 61, with a gunshot wound in a parking lot near his car, police said in an Aug. 25 new release.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department declared him dead on scene, police said.
Following Mirshojae’s death, a memorial quickly grew outside the facility where he worked, NBC 4 reported.
“He was a very sweet guy,” Pania Mazaherei, a patient, told the outlet. “He would do anything for you, like, whenever you needed something, he would always, he would always, like, be on his feet for you, like, 24/7.”
Others spoke of Mirshojae’s caring nature.
“He always had laughter on his face. Very kind, very sweet,” Azin Kolahi, a doctor who works at the clinic, told ABC 7.
Maryem Alaei, a family friend, told KTLA 5 that Mirshojae was “always laughing, always joking, always helping people.”
He is survived by his wife and 6-month-old, Alaei told the outlet.
“He was kind, funny and a caring person,” a patient wrote on Facebook. “His memory will be with us forever.”
Through investigation, police said its detectives identified the Texas man and Reseda woman as suspects in Mirshojae’s death.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the man was arrested in the Houston area, while the woman was arrested in the San Fernando Valley, according to police.
Each is facing a murder charge, police said, adding that the case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
In a Dec. 11 email to McClatchy News, a district attorney’s office spokesperson said police will present the case “later this week for filing consideration.”
An investigation into Mirshojae’s death is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 818-374-9550.
