High school student found fatally stabbed outside home, teen arrested, Indiana cops say
A teenage girl was found fatally stabbed near an Indianapolis high school, and now a teenage boy has been arrested, Indiana police told news outlets.
Police received a call about a stabbing at about 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, and officers arrived to find a girl on the grass outside a home on Indianapolis’ east side, WXIN reported. She had been stabbed and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Several nearby schools went into lockdown, including Arsenal Technical High School, where the girl, identified as Anabel Trujillo, was a student, police told the station. Trujillo died “just a few blocks” from her high school.
A short time later, police arrested a 14-year-old boy at the school, the Indianapolis Star reported. Police have not publicly identified the boy and it’s not clear what he’s been charged with, but he’s being held at a juvenile detention facility in connection to Trujillo’s killing.
“Arsenal Tech’s principal shared the heartbreaking news with students, staff and families,” district spokesperson Marc Ransford said in a statement, the newspaper reported. “The school will have the IPS Crisis Team onsite to assist students, staff and parents who are grieving this loss and senseless act of violence.”
An investigation is underway and police were seen canvassing the neighborhood in search of surveillance video, WTHR reported. Officials haven’t said what, if anything, might have motivated the attack.
“A young life has been cut short, and another has been forever changed by an act of violence,” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said in a statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He also commended officers and detectives for “their swift and focused actions” that led to an arrest of the “alleged juvenile suspect … on the very same day the crime occurred.”
