An accused burglar forced his way into a 74-year-old woman’s home, where he beat and raped her, Georgia police said.

Authorities arrested Ahmad Rucker, 26, on aggravated sodomy, battery and second-degree child cruelty, among other charges, in connection with the Dec. 13 attack in Mableton, according to an arrest affidavit from Cobb County police.

Police said the assault happened in front of the woman’s 5-year-old granddaughter.

Rucker is accused of striking the woman, causing “substantial” bruising to her eyes and mouth, authorities said. She also suffered a broken nose and a broken left shoulder.

“Without knowing anything about this young man or anything that led up to it, it seems like he chose a target that was less able to defend themselves, may have been an easier target as far as power and control,” Dr. Rebecca Johnson Osei, a clinical psychologist, told WSB-TV.

Rucker has not been treated by Osei, the station reported.

He’s charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • First-degree burglary
  • Four counts of battery
  • Aggravated battery
  • Rape
  • Aggravated sodomy
  • Exploit of a disabled or an elderly person
  • False imprisonment
  • Second-degree child cruelty

Police didn’t release additional information about the incident.

Rucker remained in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond as of Tuesday, Dec. 17, online records show.

Mableton is about a 15-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
