Crouching Tiger vanished eight months ago, then turns up 700 miles away in Michigan
A family expected to never again see their pet, Crouching Tiger, after she vanished from their home in New Hampshire 8 months ago.
Then they got a surprising call from a shelter 700 miles away in Michigan — saying the black cat had come in as a stray, the Humane Society of Huron Valley said on Facebook.
Her microchip led the shelter to the adoption center the family adopted her from in New Hampshire, which helped connect them with the family, the shelter said in the Jan. 8 post.
“Imagine their surprise when we called them up,” the shelter said. “Crouching Tiger had gone missing 8 months earlier, and they’d given up hope of ever finding her.”
The family isn’t sure how the cat could have ended up so far from home. Some in the Facebook comments offered ideas.
“Sounds like Crouching Tiger hitched an accidental ride,” someone wrote. “Says a lot for making sure your pets are microchipped.”
Someone else pointed out that cats sometimes get caught in unsuspecting moving vans.
“We wish Crouching Tiger could tell us the story behind her baffling journey, but the happy ending is what matters,” the shelter said. “Her family wasted no time and caught a plane to Michigan, to bring their baby home.”
The shelter also used the cat’s “extraordinary” story to urge pet owners to get their animals microchipped.
“...Lost pets are unfortunately a common occurrence. Which is why we always say: microchip, microchip, microchip!” the shelter said. “It’s a quick and inexpensive procedure that any veterinarian can perform.”
