Beloved preschool teacher found dead outside Dollar General store, Kentucky cops say
A 56-year-old woman referred to as a pillar in her community was found dead in the parking lot of a Dollar General, Kentucky authorities say.
Troopers responded to the Dollar General in Campbellsburg on Wednesday, Jan. 8, for a report of a woman unresponsive, according to Kentucky State Police. The woman, later identified as Rebecca Skeen, was discovered lying in the parking lot.
Skeen was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A cause of death is undetermined as troopers continue to investigate the death.
The Butterfly Garden Academy in Campbellsburg said Skeen was a pre-K teacher at the school.
“Becky has been a staple in this community for decades and her absence will be felt by all of those that knew her,” the school said in a Facebook post.
Dozens of people commented on the post, many of them sharing their experiences with Skeen.
“The most wonderful lady. So thankful for all the lives she touched, including mine!” one commenter said.
“I have known Becky for over 30 years. She always had a smile on her face!” another woman said. “She loved her family deeply, and loved those little ones whom she taught. She will be missed so much!”
Campbellsburg is about a 70-mile drive northwest from Lexington.
