Teacher accused of exposing his genitals to students during class, New York police say
A special education teacher is accused of exposing himself to students inside a New York City classroom, the city’s police department and local outlets reported.
City Department of Education employee Dana Barschdorf was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 14, and charged with two counts of attempted lewdness, a New York Police Department spokesperson told McClatchy News.
The charges come after Barschdorf, 44, was accused of using a Lysol container to expose his genitals at P.S. 723 in the Bronx, the New York Post reported.
The alleged incident happened while he was teaching a gym class at the school, which serves students with autism in kindergarten through fourth grade, according to Gothamist.
Fellow staff members alerted authorities to the incident, WABC reported.
“This alleged behavior is completely unacceptable,” a Department of Education spokesperson told the station. “This employee has been reassigned pending an investigation.”
McClatchy News reached out to New York City Public Schools for additional information Jan. 15 and was awaiting a response.
