A dog that was trapped in a complicated — and very cold — situation is currently on the mend after being rescued by Ohio police officers.

The dog, a German shepherd, was left in a truck after his owner, Brandon Thomas, was arrested the week before, WKBN reported on Jan. 15. The truck was pulled off to the side of the road and covered in snow in Boardman, and the dog was locked inside.

He was taken to the Animal Charity of Ohio, where he’s currently being treated.

“Humane Agents were just dispatched this evening to a report of a canine being trapped in a vehicle since his owners arrest a week ago!” the shelter said in a Jan. 14 Facebook post. “Poor guy is extremely dehydrated, cold and emaciated from lack of food! The police were unaware there was a dog in a vehicle.”

The shelter and WKYT also noted that while there was another person at Thomas’ residence, they said they didn’t know Thomas had a dog, let alone it was in the truck with him.
