Man fatally shoots brother while fighting over who caused mom to faint, Texas cops say
A man shot and killed his younger brother during an argument over who caused their mother to faint moments earlier, Texas police say.
The shooting happened at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at a home in northwest Houston, HPD Lt. R. Willkens said in a news briefing shared by KHOU.
Officers responded to two prior calls at the home involving domestic disputes, with the first incident happening around 6 p.m. Jan. 21, involving the victim and his girlfriend, according to Willkens. Nobody wanted to bring charges, so the man left the home, and no further action was taken.
The man, who Willkens said was in his late 20s, returned to the home a few hours later — and so did police. Threats had been made, police said, but once again, nobody at the scene was interested in charges being brought, Willkens said. Officers stuck around for a little while and eventually left.
The victim, his girlfriend and their baby were at the home, as well as his older brother and mother, Willkens said. He had come back to the address because he wanted to stay the night with his girlfriend and child.
At some point, a “heated” argument broke out between the victim and his brother, a man in his mid 30s, according to Willkens. Amid the fighting, their mother fainted and hit her head.
The Houston Fire Department was called and were on the way to the scene to assist the mother while the brothers argued again, this time each accusing the other of causing their mom to faint.
During the fight, the older brother pulled out a pistol and shot his brother in the torso, according to Willkens.
First responders attempted life-saving efforts at the scene, but the man ultimately died from his injuries.
Police have not publicly identified anyone involved in the incident.
