A former warehouse supervisor was sentenced to prison after officials say he stole $2 million worth of Fitbit devices and sold them on eBay.

The 40-year-old man was a supervisor at a third-party distribution center for Amazon in Indianapolis, according to a criminal complaint.

Between June and September 2021, $2 million worth of Fitbit devices went missing while on the way to Amazon fulfillment centers, according to a Jan. 17 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana.

Amazon conducted an internal investigation and learned that the missing health-tracking devices were part of bulk orders that went through the facility where the man worked, prosecutors said.

McClatchy News reached out to the man’s attorney Jan. 22 but did not immediately receive a response. A spokesperson for Amazon declined to comment.

In June 2021, the man started stealing the devices from the warehouse, officials said. He turned off a GPS tracker in a work van and moved the devices from the warehouse, according to the release.

Then, he posted the devices for sale on eBay, prosecutors said.

In July, a purchaser agreed to buy 100 Fitbit devices from the man, paying him over $6,500, the complaint said.

The man then sent the Fitbit devices to the buyer through the mail, prosecutors said.

In total, the purchaser and others paid the man roughly $683,500 for stolen Fitbit devices, officials said.

In December, the man pleaded guilty to mail fraud and was sentenced to a year and three months in prison, court records show.
