Woman was killed in her home 36 years ago, WA cops say. DNA testing leads to arrest
A Washington woman’s death had been a mystery for decades, then DNA testing led to an arrest, police said.
Joseph Andrew Jacquez was arrested Jan. 25 in Nevada, the Everett Police Department said in a news release shared on Facebook.
Jacquez, who used to live in Everett, is accused of killing 33-year-old Mary Ann Daniels, police said. She was found dead Feb. 1, 1989.
Daniels, who was disabled, was living in transitional housing in Everett before she was found dead in her home, police said.
No arrests were made until investigators used forensic genetic genealogy testing on “biological material” left on her body, police said.
The results pointed to Jacquez, police said.
Police said his DNA was also found on an “instrument” that caused her death.
Las Vegas officers arrested Jacquez and put him in jail in Clark County, Nevada. He will be extradited to Snohomish County, Washington.
Everett is about a 30-mile drive north from Seattle.
