A delivery driver accused of stabbing two people, killing one, after tracking his stolen van has been charged, California police say.

The delivery van driver called Berkeley police just before 12:30 p.m. Jan. 18 and said he was making deliveries in Oakland when his van was stolen, the police department said in a Jan. 29 news release.

The driver, later identified as Raymond Johnson, of Downey, had a tracking device on his van, which he installed after earlier thefts, police said.

Using the device, Johnson tracked his van to an address in Berkeley, which he gave to police.

When Johnson arrived at the home, he spotted a man and woman taking packages out of his van, according to police.

Johnson confronted the man and stabbed him before officers arrived, Jessica Perry, a Berkeley Police Department spokesperson, said in a Jan. 30 email to McClatchy News.

The woman then stabbed Johnson, and he stabbed the woman “multiple times,” Perry said.

When officers arrived, they found Johnson and the other man with stab wounds, police said.

Officers found the injured woman a little more than a block away with the stolen van, police said.

All three were taken to a hospital, where the woman died from her injuries, according to police.

After an investigation, the case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, which charged Johnson with murder and attempted murder, police said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
