Man repeatedly met 14-year-old girl before school, filmed sex acts in Virginia, feds say
A Virginia man will serve 18 years in prison in a sex-trafficking case involving a 14-year-old girl, who federal prosecutors said he repeatedly met for sex acts before she went to school in Virginia.
Olajide Benjamin Ayilaran, 24, of Manassas, supplied the teenager with drugs, alcohol and nicotine in exchange for the sexual abuse, which he filmed with his cellphone, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
He met the girl nine times at a park where he’d wait for her to arrive, often before school, between November 2023 and February 2024, prosecutors said.
He exploited her “adolescence and addiction,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing ahead of his sentencing.
Investigators found 73 “sexually explicit images and videos” of the girl on his phone and about 1,000 images of additional child sexual abuse material involving other victims, some who were prepubescent, according to prosecutors.
Ayilaran was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Jan. 31 on charges of sex trafficking a child and possession of child pornography, according to court records.
Prosecutors had asked the court to sentence him to 25 years, their position on sentencing shows.
Ayilaran’s public defender, Courtney S. Dixon, didn’t immediately return McClatchy News’ request for comment Feb. 3.
“He acknowledges the pain he caused or could have caused by his actions, and deeply regrets it,” Dixon wrote in a filing on Ayilaran’s behalf.
The case was brought against Ayilaran after the 14-year-old’s mother found her “motionless” inside her bedroom, surrounded by miniature bottles of vodka, the morning of Feb. 29, 2024, according to prosecutors.
Her mother “screamed for her husband to ‘call 911!’ while she furiously shook her daughter back to consciousness,” prosecutors wrote in their sentencing position.
Minutes later, the girl vomited the alcohol that investigators learned Ayilaran gave to her, according to the filing.
An investigation revealed that Ayilaran met the teen during the summer of 2023, according to prosecutors, who said that he then started to pursue her despite knowing she was 14.
He would offer her illegal substances, prosecutors said.
“At first, he provided the substance in return for a hug; soon, he demanded more,” prosecutors said.
During the investigation, authorities discovered Ayilaran had a digital folder he titled using a “smiley face emoji” to store most of the child sexual abuse material he kept, according to prosecutors.
Law enforcement provided 448 videos and 1,132 images of child sex abuse material that Ayilaran had to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, prosecutors said.
In 57 videos and 302 images, there were victims known by the center, according to prosecutors.
“Through his own conduct, (he) trafficked an addicted teenage girl and helped contribute to the revictimization of many more children through the continued trafficking in material depicting their abuse,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.
In a victim impact statement, the girl’s mother wrote: “I know deep down inside, she wants everything to go away. She carries guilt and shame and feels responsibility for what she thinks she could have prevented in this case.
“It is very painful to see my daughter wrestle with that. I also carry that guilt. That I tried to shelter her too much and in trying to protect her made her vulnerable and that hurt her.”
