84-year-old convicted of killing a mother in 1980 gets paroled after 45 years in Ohio
A man serving a life sentence after he was convicted of killing a woman in front of her 8-year-old daughter in 1980 will soon be released from prison, local news outlets reported citing Ohio corrections officials.
The Ohio Parole Board voted 5-3 on Feb. 11 to approve the release of 84-year-old Lincoln Mabry Jr. who served 45 years, WEWS reported.
Mabry was convicted or murder and sentenced to life in 1980 with the possibility of parole after 15 years in the killing of his ex-girlfriend Becky Kerr, according to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records and WEWS.
Mabry was accused of abducting Kerr and her daughter before fatally shooting Kerr seven times when they tried to flee, the Canton Repository reported.
“I don’t want him anywhere but prison,” Melissa Kerr-Binius, Kerr’s daughter, said while attending Mabry’s hearing virtually, the outlet reported.
“He’s an abuser,” she said. “I don’t think he can be trusted in mainstream society.”
Kerr’s family started a petition with over 3,000 signatures pushing for Mabry’s parole to be denied.
Mabry’s release is scheduled for April 14, an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction spokesperson told WJW.
