A “disoriented” hiker ended up trapped on a 100-foot cliff in the dark near Sedona, deputies said.

Rescue teams responded to a call for help at about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Bell Rock, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Bell Rock is an iconic bell-shaped red sandstone formation just south of Sedona. The hike up to the summit of the butte from the parking lot is about 547 feet, according to SummitPost..

A man had started hiking in the evening and got himself stuck in a “very dangerous location,” deputies said.

He couldn’t get down the butte, so rescuers responded and used a helicopter to hoist him from the area.

Deputies said he didn’t have any injuries but was cold.

Sedona is about a 115-mile drive north from Phoenix.
