A hiker stranded on a ledge was rescued after a passerby heard their yells for help, Nevada rescuers say.

After hearing the hiker “yelling for help high up on the ridgeline” at Gateway Canyon, the passerby called 911 at about 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue said in an Instagram post.

Rescuers said calling out to the hiker wasn’t successful.

Given the rugged terrain and that the hiker was about 400 feet above the trail, rescuers said they called in a helicopter air crew.

Two officers were lowered to the area, and one officer found the hiker, who was not injured, according to rescuers.

Using a lezard, a technical rescue lanyard, the helicopter team hoisted the hiker from the area, rescuers said.

The hiker was taken to a nearby fire station, where awaiting first responders took over, rescuers said.

Gateway Canyon is about a 20-mile drive west from Las Vegas.
