Malnourished baby seal seen under thorn bush is rescued. See the ‘grateful’ little pup
A baby seal was rescued from under a thorn bush, Maine officials said.
A gray seal pup was found huddled in a thorn bush and is now “extra grateful” for his rescue, according to a Feb. 19 Facebook post by the Marine Mammals of Maine.
The malnourished pup was being treated for an eye injury and respiration infection, officials said.
The baby was having a hard time finding food and eventually got worse when he became sick and injured, rescuers at the Bath-based rescue said.
When he first arrived at the rescue, he wasn’t very active, but staff “helped him catch up on rest, strength and nutrition,” rescuers said.
After he gained some strength, they added short swims to his routine and even introduced him to his “first meal in a long time” — fish, officials said.
He’s now able to swim for longer periods of time and is resting less, officials said.
Although the pup has a “ways to go” before being released back into the wild, officials said he’s “already greatly improved.”
