Wife shot 5 times in the head as she talks to 911, MI officials say. Husband sentenced
A man convicted of shooting his wife five times as she talked to a 911 dispatcher will spend the rest of his life in prison, Michigan officials say.
Steven Bryce Wheeler, 31, was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder following the Oct. 19, 2023, fatal shooting of his wife in Clinton Township, according to a Feb. 26 news release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
His wife, identified by the Macomb Daily as Jordan Wheeler, had called 911, telling a dispatcher her husband was assaulting her, the prosecutor’s office said.
Steven Wheeler then shot her five times in the head, killing her, prosecutors said.
“Her beautiful life ended right in her own doorway,” her sister, Kelly Femminineo, said in a Facebook post.
Steven Wheeler could be heard in the 911 call gloating about killing his wife, according to the Macomb Daily, which said two of the couple’s children had ran out of the home seconds before the shooting.
The prosecutor’s office said Steven Wheeler was sentenced “to life in prison without the possibility of parole.”
“This was a senseless and brutal act of violence that took the life of an innocent woman and forever shattered the lives of her loved ones,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a statement. “No punishment can ever undo the pain and loss this family has endured.”
According to her obituary, 33-year-old Jordan Wheeler was a mother of three who was considered “a mom first above all else.”
“She loved being a mom and her children were everything to her,” the obituary said.
Clinton Township is about a 30-mile drive northeast from Detroit.
