Angler’s dog sat patiently by canal a day after owner died in water, Louisiana cops say
A dog seen patiently sitting by a Louisiana canal was apparently awaiting the return of an owner who mostly likely died the day before in a boat crash, according to investigators.
The body of Seth Falcon, 38, was recovered around 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in St. Martin Parish — not far from where his dog waited, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported in a news release.
“According to the operator’s last known contact, (Falcon) left to go fishing with his dog around 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 and never returned,” wildlife officials said.
“The dog was found on a platform near the boating incident site and returned to the boater’s family.”
Falcon’s cause of death remains to be determined, officials said.
His body was found in Banister Canal after a commercial fisherman reported seeing “an unmanned 18-foot aluminum vessel” in the water, officials said. The canal is off the Belle River in southern Louisiana, WBRZ reports.
“When agents arrived on the scene, they found evidence to suggest the boat hit a pylon ejecting the operator into the water,” officials said.
“Falcon’s body was recovered without wearing a personal flotation device.”
Investigators did not release details of whether the dog may have also been on the boat when it crashed.
Falcon lived in Pierre Part, about a 43-mile drive south from Baton Rouge.
