ICE officer coerced migrant woman into sex acts, then deleted evidence in Ohio, feds say
A former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer was sentenced to prison after officials say he coerced sex acts from a migrant woman he supervised.
Andrew Golobic, 53, was found guilty of obstructing a sex trafficking investigation, deprivation of rights under color of law, witness tampering and destruction of records in a federal investigation, according to a March 11 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.
McClatchy News reached out to Golobic’s attorney but did not immediately hear back.
From 2006 to 2020, Golobic was an ICE deportation officer in Blue Ash, Ohio. From 2015 to 2020 he was assigned to work at the Alternatives to Detention program, which allowed some low-risk asylum seekers to live in communities while their immigration cases were pending, officials said.
Golobic had authority to determine the “type of monitoring, frequency of reporting and level of supervision, as well as the authority to recommend that ATD participants who violated conditions of the program be detained or deported,” officials said.
During his employment, Golobic forced a woman under his supervision into sex acts at his home, according to officials and the woman.
“I thought he really liked me,” the woman said during testimony, according to WCPO. “But it turned into something else, something ugly.”
Golobic said in court that he had “inappropriate sexual relationships with immigrant women he supervised” but denied forcing anyone to have sex with him, the news outlet reported.
“What I did was unethical,” he said, according to WCPO. “But I would never, ever hurt anybody.”
Officials said Golobic also destroyed evidence, misled investigators, deleted evidence from phones and tampered with witnesses.
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Blue Ash is about a 15-mile drive northeast of Cincinnati.
