A brother and sister accused of killing a father who went for a walk along a bike path have been charged, California prosecutors say.

John Chong Moon, 54, and Cindy Kim, 58, are facing multiple charges in relation to the death of Cuauhtemoc Garcia, 66, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a March 12 news release.

“This was a senseless and brutal act of violence that took the life of a husband, father and businessman who simply wanted to enjoy a peaceful walk,” District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in the release. “My sympathies go out to his family as they grieve this unimaginable loss.”

As Garcia was leaving his car for a walk along the Coyote Creek Bike Path in Cerritos on Tuesday, Feb. 25, Moon and Kim approached, prosecutors said.

When Garcia refused to give them his keys, Moon and Kim fatally shot him, according to prosecutors.

“My husband didn’t deserve this,” Garcia’s wife, Michelle Garcia, told KTTV. “He just didn’t. He was a good man. He was a kind man. He was a hardworking man.”

The couple was weeks away from celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary, the outlet reported.

“We were hoping to do some more trips … just enjoy life,” his wife told the outlet. “We wanted to keep spending more time together.”

A little more than a week after Garcia’s death, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared a bulletin requesting information about the case and included a photo of a man and woman seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

Prosecutors said deputies identified the duo as suspects in Garcia’s killing using a video of them posted on TikTok.

Moon and Kim were each charged with murder and attempted second-degree robbery, prosecutors said.

Moon is being held on $3 million bail, while Kim is being held on $2 million, jail records show. The pair were expected to appear in court March 13.

If found guilty of all charges, prosecutors said both face life in prison.

Cerritos is about a 20-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles.
