Violent attack on 2-year-old girl led to skull fracture, brain bleed, Illinois cops say

A 21-year-old was arrested after being accused of attacking his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, Illinois officials said.

On March 15, Will County deputies responded to unincorporated Plainfield after getting reports of an unconscious 2-year-old girl, according to a March 16 Facebook post by the sheriff’s department.

The girl, who had bruising to her left eye and stomach, was taken to the hospital, officials said.

After being examined at the hospital, doctors determined she had a “blown left pupil,” “left-sided gaze preference” and bruising to her eye area, deputies said.

The girl’s mom and her boyfriend, later identified as Jordan Padilla, were home when deputies were called, but Padilla gave officers statements that were “not consistent with how the child received the observed bruising to her face,” officials said.

During his interview, he gave “incriminating statements” and eventually it was determined he had struck the toddler in the face with his elbow, causing a skull fracture and brain bleed, officials said.

The child is in critical but stable condition, officers said.

Padilla was charged with battery, domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child, officials said.

Plainfield is about a 40-mile drive southwest of Chicago.
