Woman pulled into flooded creek and killed after waders fill with water, Oregon cops say
A rainstorm and flooding led to a woman’s drowning death in Oregon, deputies said.
The woman, whose name and age weren’t released, was trying “to clear branches from a culvert under her driveway” on March 16 in Central Point, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on Facebook.
She was wearing waders, or waterproof overalls, and they “filled with water and swift flood waters pulled her through the culvert and into nearby Kane Creek,” deputies said. A culvert is a tunnel-type structure built to channel water.
First responders found the woman in the creek, deputies said.
She was taken to a hospital but didn’t survive, according to deputies, who described the incident as “tragic” and said “our condolences go to (the woman’s) family and friends in this difficult time.”
Central Point is about a 270-mile drive south from Portland.
