Bald eagle dad Shadow keeps an eye on his “toddler” chicks as they explore their Southern California nest, a video shows.

The growing eaglets were seen waddling March 24 in Big Bear Valley, the Friends of Big Bear Valley’s executive director Sandy Steers said in a Facebook post.

“Yesterday was apparently Shadow’s day for good videos,” Steers wrote.

The video shows Shadow perched on a branch nearby as his two eaglets start to move about the nest.

Their oversized wings and big feet throw the eaglets off balance, so they clumsily move around, Steers wrote.

At one point, the larger chick is seen with its wings flopping on the smaller chick before it breaks free and moves toward the edge of the nest.

The chicks appear to get close to the edge of the nest, but the nonprofit said that wasn’t alarming.

It’s possible an eaglet could fall over, the nonprofit said, but mom eagle Jackie and Shadow have placed branches around the nest “to serve as a guardrail.”

“We will just have to trust in the eagles,” the post said.

A third eaglet died sometime after March 13 after a winter storm hit the area.

Jackie and Shadow can be watched on the nonprofit’s live eagle camera.

The nest overlooks Big Bear Lake, which is about a 95-mile drive northeast from Los Angeles.
