Driver gets out of vehicle after crash, then is fatally electrocuted, IN cops say
Downed power lines littered Indiana roadways in the aftermath of severe storms when a driver crashed into one, deputies said.
The 27-year-old got out of his pickup truck and came into contact with one of the live power lines April 2, the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies went to the scene of the crash in Danville and found the man, identified as Nathan Merritt, lying near his truck, which was on fire, deputies said.
Authorities were unable to immediately tend to Merritt because of the dangerous power lines blocking the road. Deputies contacted the power company and asked them to shut off the power in the area, according to the news release.
Once the power was cut, Merritt was pronounced dead at the scene.
Merritt was a father and was well known in the wrestling community. He worked as a sound and production director at Warrior Pro Wrestling.
“Our WPW family will miss his smile, excitement, and dedication to not just our show but to independent wrestling across the state,” the organization said in an April 3 Facebook post.
Danville is about a 20-mile drive west from Indianapolis.
