A man stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death while she was at work as a cleaner for a county health department, Kentucky officials said.

Katherine Homez Gomez, 33, was found dead at the facility with laceration wounds on her body on April 8, according to the Oldham County Police Department’s news release.

Her 32-year-old ex-boyfriend, Oscar Torres Alvarez, fled the La Grange health center and drove to Indiana, according to police.

He was arrested hours after the stabbing near Merrillville, Indiana, which is about a 275-mile drive northwest from La Grange, police said.

He was charged with murder and burglary and is held on a $2 million bond, police said. Torres Alvarez is awaiting extradition back to Kentucky.

The Oldham County Health Department said Homez Gomez was a cleaning contractor employee and that the stabbing was an isolated incident related to domestic violence.

La Grange is about a 25-mile drive northeast from Louisville.
