Man finds unconscious woman at transit center and assaults her, OR officials say
A man accused of sexually assaulting a 63-year-old woman at a transit center was found guilty after a trial in Oregon, prosecutors said.
Eduardo Guillermo Madrid-Roque, now 30, was convicted of five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and other charges in connection with the June 2023 assault, the Washington County District Attorney’s Office said in an April 14 news release.
He’s scheduled to be sentenced in June, prosecutors said.
McClatchy News reached out to his attorney April 15 and was awaiting a response.
The woman was visiting Oregon from California, prosecutors said.
She drank wine while flying and “had a bad reaction” because of a recent medication change, according to prosecutors.
After landing in Portland, she went to a transit center in Hillsboro and “sat on the sidewalk and became unconscious,” prosecutors said.
She was on the sidewalk for about an hour before Madrid-Roque showed up, according to prosecutors.
He saw the woman and “waited for the bus and other passengers to leave before he approached,” prosecutors said.
He assaulted her sexually for a half-hour, pausing “at different times when other passengers walked by before he abused the victim again,” prosecutors said. He then left on a bus, according to prosecutors.
The assault was recorded on security video, prosecutors said.
The woman was found disoriented and “unaware of her surroundings” by transit police officers, according to prosecutors, who said she was evaluated at a hospital.
She didn’t remember the attack, which was discovered after she reached out to the transit office to find her belongings and the security video was reviewed, prosecutors said.
The woman was in Oregon to celebrate the graduation of her grandson, KOIN reported.
Hillsboro is about a 20-mile drive west from Portland.
