A husband pulled out a knife during an argument with his wife and stabbed her several times after accusing her of cheating on him, Minnesota police said.

Officers arrived at the Farmington home on April 15 to find the 52-year-old man in his garage with blood on his hand, according to a probable cause statement filed on April 17.

He was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the first degree and attempted murder in the second degree, the criminal complaint said.

His attorney information was not listed. McClatchy News is not naming the suspect to protect the identity of the victim.

The argument between the couple broke out when the husband accused his wife of not going to work, and instead cheating on him, after he hid a GPS tracker in her vehicle, police said.

The husband grabbed a pocket knife off of the kitchen counter and stabbed his wife as she held up her arms to try to protect herself, the probable cause said.

A witness who also lives in the home woke up to the yelling and saw the man drag his wife through the kitchen and into the bedroom, according to police. The witness told the man to stop, but he said he was going to kill his wife and then go to jail, the probable cause said.

When officers arrived, the woman was lying in the bedroom in a pool of blood.

The most serious stab wounds, authorities said, were in the woman’s right armpit and near her neck and shoulder. A tourniquet was applied to stop some of the bleeding, police said.

The woman was taken to the hospital where staff determined she had been stabbed 10 times and needed surgery, police said.

Sitting on the kitchen counter was a pocket knife covered in blood and tissue, according to the probable cause statement.

The wife told police her husband had beaten her and threatened her with a knife multiple times in the past, according to the probable cause statement. The witness also said the husband had choked his wife multiple times and repeatedly threatened to kill her, police said.

The husband is held in Dakota County Jail on a $750,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 1.

Farmington is in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, about a 30-mile drive south of the cities.
