Imposter steals $218K Ferrari after being hired to deliver it, Colorado suit says
A Minnesota dealership filed a lawsuit after it hired a moving company to transport a Ferrari but says an imposter stole it, according to the civil suit.
The federal lawsuit was filed April 4 in the U.S. District of Colorado against Bentley Denver and Angel’s Moving Autos Inc, accusing both parties of negligence.
On Nov. 4, Twin Cities Performance, also known as TCP, bought a 2023 Ferrari Roma from Bentley Denver for more than $218,000, according to the civil complaint.
After the purchase, TCP made an arrangement with Angels Moving to transport the Ferrari from Bentley Denver to its dealership in Minnesota, the lawsuit said.
Angels Moving then used an online platform called Central Dispatch, a site that allows shippers and carriers to enter into agreements, to solicit a carrier, the complaint said.
Angels Moving selected a carrier doing business under the name “KT Logistics” to transport the Ferrari, the lawsuit said. However, the carrier didn’t actually work for KT Logistics, which is a legit dry freight transportation company out of St. Joseph, Missouri, according to the lawsuit.
The “imposter carrier” then went to Bentley Denver, picked up the $218,000 Ferrari and never delivered it to TCP, the lawsuit said.
“At the time of pick up, neither Angels Moving nor Bentley Denver properly verified that the carrier seeking to pick up the Ferrari was in fact KT Logistics, LLC,” the lawsuit said.
The complaint said after the Ferrari was stolen, Angels Moving waited a week to let TCP know, and its owner even texted TCP’s general manager two days after the theft saying “look[ed] like everything is good and legitimate.”
When TCP finally learned about the theft, the manager filed a police report, and so did KT Logistics, LLC.
TCP then asked Bentley Denver to hold off on cashing the check it sent for the Ferrari, but the dealership cashed it anyway, according to the lawsuit.
The complaint makes no mention of the Ferrari ever being found.
The lawsuit is asking for an undetermined amount in damages.
