A 19-year-old man is accused of attacking an 18-year-old woman and her newborn baby on a Chicago street, police and local news outlets report.

The man then abducted the 1-month-old child on the street during the April 18 incident, police said in a news release.

The mother was on her sidewalk with her daughter when the man took the baby and ran off, authorities told WLS. Chicago police would not confirm the relationship to McClatchy News.

Twenty minutes later he was arrested, police said.

He is now facing a slew of charges in connection with the attack on the mom and baby, according to the April 21 news release.

The Chicago man was charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of aggravated kidnapping, domestic battery and child abduction/father conceals. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and violating a protection order.

He was due in court on April 21, police said.
