Scared cat becomes sweetheart at IN shelter. ‘Just wanted someone to notice her’

A cat who once took solace from fear in a dark corner of an Indiana shelter kennel is now ready to see her best days, if only someone will give her a second chance at life.
“Almost a month ago, Twilight was found wandering alone, scared, front-declawed, and without anyone coming to claim her,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in an April 22 Facebook post.
“At 9 years old, this sweet tabby girl found herself in a loud, unfamiliar shelter, and it was clear she was heartbroken. She tucked herself into her Kasa and barely moved. She’s been eating just enough to get by… but not enough to truly thrive.”
It’s obvious she once had a home because she is spayed and declawed, her pet profile says. But it’s not known how long she had been on her own.
“I don’t know how long I have been lost, away from my owner, but no one has come looking for me,” her profile said. “Being on the streets with no claws to defend myself was certainly frightening. Trying to stay dry and out of bad weather was impossible. Even though I was so hungry when I was homeless, my anxiety at being in the shelter has prevented me from eating.”
Kennel stress appeared to have Twilight in a chokehold until one day … when it suddenly didn’t.
“But today… something changed. When I went to visit her, I expected a quiet, timid cat. Instead, I was met with the most tender surprise. Twilight came out of her hiding spot, made biscuits on her blanket, and walked straight up to me, asking for affection,” the staff member caring for Twilight said in the post.
“She pressed her head into my chest like she was begging to be held. She didn’t want me to stop petting her. I couldn’t even get a good photo because she kept trying to headbutt by hands. She just wanted someone to notice her and stay.”
Whatever was in Twilight’s past that put her on edge is subsiding. She is no longer the trembling feline hiding in a corner.
“Twilight may have been overlooked because of her fear, but today she was melting into love. She’s not asking for much, a warm bed, a patient heart, and someone who will help her feel safe again,” the shelter said. “She’s 9 years old, front declawed, and more than ready for her forever home.”
