Man climbs into girl’s room, then she whispers for help on phone, Texas mom says
A Texas mother received a late night call for help from her daughter, then found a man had climbed into the girl’s room, the mom said.
Officers responded to a 911 call at about 2:30 a.m. April 28, from a home on the east side of Odessa, saying an unknown man had crawled into a 14-year-old’s bedroom, police told KOSA.
The man fled once he was discovered, escaping out a window, police told the station. However, he dropped his phone on the way out.
Three days later, on May 1, police arrested 30-year-old Ivan Quiroga-Vargas, the station reported. According to police, Quiroga-Vargas told investigators that he was intoxicated on the night of the incident and had mistaken the home for his own.
He told police he regularly enters his home in this way, KMID reported. He also said he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, according to police.
Quiroga-Vargas would have had to remove a window air conditioning unit to get into the room, the girl’s mother said in a Facebook post.
She said her daughter called her while in bed, pretending to be asleep, whispering for help, saying someone was trying to break in through the window.
“By the time I got in my daughters room there was a guy standing in the middle of her room facing her bed,” the mother said, adding that she “scared him off.”
“I never expected to see a person standing in her room. I yelled and he dove out the window,” she said. “I grabbed both his feet and struggled with him before I let go.”
Quiroga-Vargas was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass of habitation, a misdemeanor, the Odessa American reported, though police said charges could be upgraded depending on the investigation.
After being jailed, Quiroga-Vargas was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, KMID reported.
Odessa is a roughly 320-mile drive southwest from Fort Worth.
