A DoorDash driver accused of working with three others to steal $2.5 million for fake deliveries has been convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal prosecutors reported.

Sayee Chaitanya Reddy Devagiri, 30, of Newport Beach, pleaded guilty Tuesday, May 13, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California said in a news release.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Devagiri and three others were indicted by a federal grand jury in August, prosecutors said.

He’s accused of setting up fake high-value customer orders then using employee credentials to access DoorDash to make sure the fake orders were assigned to himself and his friends, prosecutors said.

Devagiri then falsely marked the orders as delivered to collect fees, prosecutors said. He would then mark the orders as in progress in order to falsely “deliver” them again.

“This procedure usually took less than five minutes, and was repeated hundreds of times for many of the orders,” prosecutors said in the release.

The scam ran from 2020 to 2021, prosecutors said.

Two co-defendants earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, prosecutors said.

Devagiri is awaiting sentencing and faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, prosecutors said.

DoorDash Inc. is based in San Francisco.
