Woman lures online date to secluded area, then he’s robbed of $20,000, CA cops say

A woman lured an online date to a secluded area, then she robbed him of over $20,000, California police say.

The woman met with her date, whom she met on “a popular dating site,” just after midnight on April 28, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a May 22 news release on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After the date drove and parked in a secluded area per the woman’s directions, another man and woman showed up “in a black, newer-model Dodge Charger or Challenger,” police said.

The man opened the date’s car door and pointed a gun at him, demanding his property, police said.

The two then ransacked the date’s car, stole his property and forced him to “unlock his cell phone and provide the lock code,” police said.

While the three were fleeing, the man shot toward the date as he sat inside his car, police said.

Worried about his safety, the date also fled but left his car behind, according to police.

About three hours later, the three suspects returned and stole the man’s car, police said.

The three then racked up more than $20,000 in purchases and wire transfers using the man’s unlocked phone, police said.

Officers found the man’s abandoned car set ablaze about 7 miles from where he left it, police said.

The two women are described as being between the ages of 17 and 25; the man accused of firing at the date is described as being between 20 and 30 years old; and a fourth suspect is also described as a man between the ages of 20 and 30, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 213-484-3651.
