Bystanders help hiker who plunged from slippery Utah waterfall. See the rescue
Bystanders rushed to help a hiker after they fell from the top of a slippery Utah waterfall, rescuers said.
The hiker fell more than 20 feet near lower falls in Adam’s Canyon, the Layton City Fire Department said in a May 26 post on Facebook.
“Bystanders, including a nurse, provided immediate aid until our crews arrived,” the department said.
The department worked with Davis County Search and Rescue to stabilize the fallen hiker before airlifting them out of the canyon, officials said.
Photos show the department and bystanders helping the injured hiker and video shows a rescuer and the hiker strapped to a stretcher as a helicopter hoists them out of the canyon.
“That looks terrifying,” someone commented under the video on Facebook.
“We’re grateful for the quick actions of bystanders and the teamwork among all responding agencies,” the department said. “As a reminder, please stay safe while hiking. Be prepared for changing trail and weather conditions, and always hike with caution near water and steep terrain.”
Adams Canyon is about a 25-mile drive north from Salt Lake City.
