Man shot romantic partner in head and left her 2-year-old near body, KY cops say
A man has been convicted in the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman, whose toddler was left alone with her body for days, Kentucky authorities say.
The Louisville Metro Police Department said the body of Kierra Stone-Gonzalez was found Sept. 21, 2022, four days after she was last heard from.
A 2-year-old child, who loved ones said is the daughter of Stone-Gonzalez, was also found in the apartment, having been left there “for several days,” police said.
“It’s hard because her sister and I are the ones who found her,” the victim’s mother, Michelle Stone, told WAVE 3. “We walked in on her. We walked in on her, and the one blessing that I got out of this is the fact that they didn’t kill my granddaughter.”
An investigation revealed Jeremy Jamar Thompson, now 30, had sent Stone-Gonzalez threatening messages on social media, according to police. He is accused of telling her, “I’ll smoke you,” adding that he would “get away with it.”
After the 23-year-old woman was found shot dead, Thompson messaged another person, “I think I shot somebody last night,” police said. He went into detail about the shooting, messaging that he shot the victim in the head, according to charging documents.
When police interviewed Thompson, he said he and Stone-Gonzalez “were romantically involved.” He said the shooting stemmed from a fight over infidelity, WDRB reported.
Charged with murder and possession of a handgun as a convicted felon, Thompson was found guilty of both counts on May 22, more than two years after the shooting, according to WHAS.
A jury reportedly recommended a prison sentence of 35 years, including a mandatory 20-year sentence.
“The jury found this defendant responsible for taking the life of a young mother and creating a tragic set of circumstances for her family,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers said in a statement obtained by WDRB and WHAS.
Thompson will be sentenced July 2, according to the court records.
Stone said she wants her daughter to be remembered for “her smile and her heart of gold,” WAVE 3 reported.
“She had a good heart and she definitely didn’t deserve what happened to her,” the victim’s mother said.
