An Oklahoma man crashed during a police pursuit, killing another driver, then swallowed drugs as he continued to flee, authorities say.

Dontay Dominick Allen, 28, is accused of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, as well as driving under the influence and drug violations, following the deadly May 25 chase in Oklahoma City, according to a police incident report.

An officer tried to stop Allen — who was driving a Dodge pickup truck — at about 1:20 a.m. after police say he failed to use a turn signal while making a right at an intersection. But when the officer switched on their lights and sirens, Allen sped up and wouldn’t pull over, kicking off a pursuit that went onto Interstate 235, police said.

A police helicopter was called in to help, the department told KOCO.

Toward the end of chase, Allen exited the interstate and drove past several streets, then ran a red light and slammed into a sedan driven by 22-year-old Kevin Gramajo, who later died at a hospital, according to the incident report.

Immediately following the crash, Allen got out of his truck and ran away on foot but was quickly caught, police said.

While Allen was running, officers say they saw him pull drugs from his pants and swallow them, KWTV reported.

Court records show Allen was jailed in late April on charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence, but he posted bond on May 15, just 10 days before the fatal crash.
