A man was accused of breaking into a woman’s home and sexually assaulting her, California police said.

On May 22, a man identified as 40-year-old Cong Tran broke into a woman’s San Jose home through an unlocked door while she was sleeping, according to a May 28 news release by the police department.

Tran went into the woman’s bedroom and laid on top of her before covering her mouth as he sexually assaulted her, police said.

Then he fled on foot, officers said.

Officers recognized Tran’s description from an encounter with him the day before, police said.

He was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on “charges related to burglary and sexual assault,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 408-277-4102.

San Jose is about a 50-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.

If you have experienced sexual assault and need someone to talk to, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline for support at 1-800-656-4673 or visit the hotline's online chatroom.
