Woman fatally shoots husband during fight because she’s ‘just tired,’ WI cops say
Residents gathered outside an apartment complex and watched a woman walk from the building, then drop a handgun, Wisconsin police said.
She had just shot and killed her husband, according to Milwaukee police.
Doris Winters had gotten into an argument with her husband, grabbed a gun and fatally shot him in the back on May 31, according to a probable cause statement.
“He called me a (explative) for the last time and I just shot him…I just shot him…” she told police. “So I just grabbed my gun and shot him. Because I’m just tired. I know I shouldn’t have shot him, but I’m just tired.”
Winters was charged with reckless homicide, according to the criminal complaint filed June 4.
Her attorney information was not listed.
A witness said they tried to deescalate the argument between the husband and wife when Winters picked up a gun and said it was loaded, police said. The husband went upstairs and spoke to the woman’s mother, which angered his wife, according to the probable cause.
The witness was standing between the couple when Winters reached over the witness and shot her husband in the back, police said.
“Get him out of here before I shoot him again,” Winters said, according to the probable cause statement.
Two people helped carry the husband out of the apartment, and he was pronounced dead by authorities at the scene, the probable cause said.
Winters told detectives she did not intend to kill her husband, police said.
If convicted, she faces up to 60 years in prison, according to court documents.
