70 empty beer cans found inside vehicle after DUI arrest, California police say

An accused drunken driver had more than 70 empty beer cans inside their vehicle, California police reported.

A police officer spotted the driver having trouble staying in their lane and pulled them over on Sunday evening, June 29, Cotati police said in a news release on Facebook.

The driver had an “open container of alcohol in the cup holder,” police said. A field sobriety test determined they had a blood alcohol content of .25%, three times the legal limit, police say.

Officers arrested the driver on charges of driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license due to a prior DUI, police said.

A search of the vehicle turned up more than 70 empty beer cans, police said.

A photo posted with the release shows cans and boxes of Bud Light stacked on the hood of the car.

“We want to remind everyone that drinking and driving is not worth it,” police said in the release. “The outcome could have been much worse had our officers not stopped the driver.”

Cotati is about a 50-mile drive northwest from San Francisco.
