Trooper causes head injury to infant, abuses 2 other kids, PA prosecutors say
A Pennsylvania state trooper is accused of assaulting an infant and abusing two other children months after officials said he was “prowling” near a potential witness’s home, prosecutors said.
Christopher S. Young, 35, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangering another person, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office said in a July 1 news release.
This comes after the Lancaster County man was charged in March with intimidating a witness during a child abuse investigation, prosecutors said.
The infant was in Young’s care in 2023 when they were assaulted and suffered a head injury, officials said. The baby was taken to the hospital and needed physical therapy.
Two other children were victims in a “pattern of abuse” by Young, according to prosecutors.
The man dug his chin into a child’s head multiple times, causing a visible injury, officials said. Young is also accused of keeping firearms accessible to the kids and letting one of them hold a weapon.
The Pennsylvania State Police said Young is suspended without pay.
In February, Young was caught “prowling” near a potential witness’s home in Schuylkill County while he was armed with a gun and knife, prosecutors said.
Investigators also said he called and texted the witness, leading to charges of intimidation and stalking, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
Young appeared in court July 1 for the new charges, and his bond was set at $50,000, according to prosecutors. In March, he was denied bail.
Lancaster County is about a 65-mile drive west from Philadelphia.
